It would be a good idea to create a storage character so that your inventory and bank won’t be filled with all the materials you will need. After gathering the materials you need, just send it to your storage characters until later use.
Your first objective is to gather as much materials as possible. Next is to save up gold because you will be spending a lot as previously mentioned. Buying materials, such a flux, from the vendor costs gold and learning new recipes from the engineering trainer will also cost gold.

1-40: Rough Blasting Powders (1 Rough Stone each)
41-50: Copper Bolts (1 Copper Bar each)
By level 50 you should craft an Arclight Spanner since you’re going to need it later on. You should also become a Journeyman Engineer once your wow profession reaches 50. Your character level should also be at least 10.
51-65: Copper tubes (2 Copper Bars and 1 Weak Flux each)
66-75: Rough Boom Sticks (1 Handful of Copper Bolts and 1 Copper Tube and 1 Wooden Stick each)
76-90: Coarse Blasting Powder (1 Coarse Stone each)
91-95: Copper Modulator (2 Handful of Copper Bolts, 1 Copper Bar and 2 Linen Cloths each)
96-100: Target Dummy (1 Copper Modulator, 2 Handful of Copper Bolts, 1 Bronze Bar and 1 Wool Cloth each)
101-110: Silver Contacts (1 Silver Bar each)
111-120: Bronze Tubes (2 Bronze Bars and 1 Weak Flux each)
121-125: Small Bronze Bombs (2 Bronze Bars, 1 Wool Cloth, 1 Silver Contact, 4 Coarse Blasting Powder)
126-145: Heavy Blasting Powder (1 Heavy Stone each)
146-150: Big Bronze Bomb (3 Bronze Bar, 1 Silver Contact, 2 Heavy Blasting Powder)
When you’ve reached 150, talk to the trainer to become an Expert Engineer. The level of your character should be at least 20.
150 – 175: Fireworks (1 Heavy Leather, 1 Heavy Blasting Powder)
176: Gyromatic Micro-Adjuster (4 Steel Bars)
177 – 190: Solid Blasting Powder (2 Solid Stone)
191 – 195: Big Iron Bombs (3 Heavy Blasting Powder, 3 Iron Bars, 1 Silver contact)
196 – 205: Mithril Tubes (3 Mithril Bars)
206 – 210: Unstable Triggers (2 Mithril Bars, 2 Mageweave Cloths, 2 Solid Blasting Powder)

Once you’re engineering profession reaches 225, go to the engineer trainer to become an Artisan Engineer.

When you’ve reached engineering 300, you can now become a Master Engineer.

310 – 320: Fel Iron Bombs (1 Fel Iron Casing, 2 Handful of Iron Bolts, 1 Elemental Blasting Powder)
320 – 335: Fel Iron Muskets (3 Fel Iron Casing, 6 Handful of Iron Bolts, 2 Thorium Cubes)
335 – 350: White Smoke Flares (1 Elemental Blasting Powder, 1 Netherweave Cloth)
350 – 355: Felsteel Stabilizer (2 Fel Steel Bars)
